West Michigan is an exciting place to live and learn.  We are quickly becoming a multicultural community that embraces the diversity of its members. Chiaroscuro (kee-ar-oh-skyur-oh) Non Profit Organization is proud to be a part of that diversity and we would like to invite you to partner with us during our 2009-2010 season of celebrating our multiculturalism.

Chiaroscuro is a free film series coordinated by educators from local universities and members of the community; however, our audience encompasses the entire city.  Our mission is to promote cultural diversity and awareness through the presentation of international films and round table discussions for the benefit of students and members of the community. 

The series also provides an excellent opportunity for up-and-coming local filmmakers to present their work, since a short film written and produced by local talent precedes each international film.  Chiaroscuro features fine films from countries around the world that are shown at U.I.C.A. (Urban Institute of Contemporary Art).  Each film is followed by a round-table discussion with a panel of experts who discuss the nuances of the film and culture in addition to fielding audience questions.  Afterwards we enjoy refreshments in the gallery as we meet new people and discuss the film.   

The success of Chiaroscuro’s first few seasons far exceeded our expectations, being very well attended with much enthusiasm and positive response.  This coming year we are setting our sights on expanding our impact, both in the number of people who attend the series and in a deeper cultural experience for those in attendance.  The new season begins in January and will run through May.  The theme of this season’s films will be “The Muses".
